Frequently asked questions

How do I create a tour?

Open the app, choose a city, tell us how much time you have and what you're interested in, and Pocket Tour Guide builds a personalized, narrated walking tour with a route between the stops.

The narration won't play.

Narration is generated and streamed, so it needs an internet connection the first time you play a stop. If a story is still being prepared, give it a moment and tap play again. To listen without a connection, download the tour first (see below).

Can I use a tour offline?

Yes. Open a tour and choose Download to save its stops, stories, audio and map. Once downloaded, that tour works with no connection.

How do I ask the guide a question?

Every tour has a chat with your guide — tap Ask to learn more about a stop, get suggestions for real places nearby, or send a photo of something you found and hear its story.

How do I walk a tour with a friend?

Open your tour, tap the walk-together button next to Share, then Start walking together. Your friend scans the QR code with their phone's camera, opens the link you send them, or taps Join a friend's walk on Home and types the code. They get the whole tour on their own phone, in step with yours: play, pause or skip on any phone and the others follow. Up to six phones can share a walk. Friends need the app but not an account, and joining costs them nothing. A walk lasts until you end it, or 24 hours.

My friend's phone isn't following mine.

Both phones need an internet connection. A phone that was locked, in the background or offline catches up as soon as the tour is open on it again. During a walk the narration plays at normal speed on every phone, so the phones stay together.

Who sees me on the map during a walk?

Only the people on that walk, and only while the tour is open on your phone. Turn off Show me on the map in the walk sheet to hide your pin; leaving the walk removes it too.

What are stamps and ranks?

Every tour you create adds a stamp of its city to your passport, so two tours in the same city give you two stamps. Open the passport from Profile, or tap the stamps on Home. Collect eight and tap Trade 8 stamps for a tour to turn them into a free tour; you need to be signed in to trade. Your rank grows with the tours you finish, from New in Town to Urban Legend, and its badge is your profile picture.

Purchases and credits

Purchases are handled securely through the App Store and Google Play. If a purchase didn't go through, or you think you were charged incorrectly, email ptg@zuapp.me with your order details and we'll sort it out.

How do I delete my account or my data?

You can delete your account and all of its data from inside the app, or see Delete your account for the steps. You can also email us to request deletion at any time.
