Pocket Tour Guide respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store and share information when you use the Pocket Tour Guide mobile application, website and related services, collectively referred to as the "Service".

1. Who We Are

For applicable data protection laws, including the General Data Protection Regulation ("GDPR"), the operator identified above is the data controller responsible for your personal data.

2. Scope of This Policy

This Policy applies to:

The Pocket Tour Guide mobile application.
The Pocket Tour Guide website at https://ptg.zuapp.me.
Accounts, tours, purchases and other features provided through the Service.
Communications you send to us concerning the Service.

It does not govern third-party websites, applications or services that you may open from Pocket Tour Guide.

3. Information We Collect

The information we collect depends on the features you use and whether you create an account.

3.1 Account and Contact Information

If you create or use an account, we may collect:

Your name.
Your email address.
Your login credentials or authentication tokens.
An internal account identifier.
Information received through Sign in with Apple or Sign in with Google.

When you use Sign in with Apple, Apple may provide your name and either your real email address or an Apple private relay address, depending on your selection.

We use this information to create, authenticate, secure and maintain your account and to make your tours and preferences available across your devices.

You may also use certain parts of Pocket Tour Guide without creating a conventional account. In that case, we create an anonymous account associated with a randomly generated device identifier.

3.2 User and Device Identifiers

We collect identifiers such as:

Your Pocket Tour Guide user ID.
A randomly generated device ID.
Authentication and session identifiers.
A RevenueCat app user ID used to associate purchases with the correct Pocket Tour Guide account.

The Pocket Tour Guide device ID is used for app functionality and account continuity. It is not Apple's advertising identifier and is not used for cross-app tracking or targeted advertising.

3.3 Location and Trip Information

If you grant location permission or choose to provide location-related information, we may collect:

Precise or approximate device location.
Your selected city, country, district or map area.
Your optional home country.
Starting location and route-related coordinates.
Arrival information when you approach a tour stop.
Destinations, tour times, interests, pace and food preferences.

We use this information to:

Detect or suggest your current city.
Create and order walking routes.
Start a route near your current position.
Suggest nearby places.
Recognize when you reach a stop.
Provide relevant practical information, including embassy information.
Adapt tours to your selected area and preferences.

Location access is optional and controlled through your device settings. We do not use location data for advertising or cross-app tracking.

3.4 Activity and Fitness Information

If you turn on step counting, we collect:

The number of steps recorded by your device's built-in step counter.
The walking distance measured while a tour is open in the app.

We use this information to:

Show your walking totals in your profile.
Show how far you walked on an individual tour.
Include your walking distance in the tour magazine you can export.

Step counting is off by default and is enabled only by you, in Settings. It reads your device's motion sensor, which requires the physical activity permission on Android and Motion & Fitness access on iOS. You can turn it off at any time in Settings or in your device settings, and we stop collecting new step data.

We do not track your activity in the background, and we do not collect this information while step counting is off. We do not use it for advertising, profiling unrelated to the Service, or cross-app tracking, and we do not share it with third parties. Because activity information can be considered sensitive in some jurisdictions, we process it only with your consent and solely to show you the walking statistics described above.

3.5 Accessibility Preferences and Sensitive Information

You may voluntarily provide accessibility preferences, such as step-free or wheelchair-accessible route requirements.

These preferences may reveal information relating to a disability and may therefore be considered sensitive information under certain laws.

We process accessibility preferences only when you choose to provide them and solely to personalize routes, stops and accessibility information. We do not use this information for advertising, profiling unrelated to the Service, or tracking.

3.6 Tours, Guide Preferences and Other User Content

We may collect and store content you create or provide through the Service, including:

Cities, interests, schedules and tour preferences.
Generated and edited tours.
Selected stops and route changes.
Your guide, voice, language and personality preferences.
Names you assign to guides.
Completed or visited stops.
Downloaded, saved, shared or published tours.
Tour introductions, stories and other generated content.
Other information you intentionally submit through free-text fields.

We use this information to generate, save, personalize and display your tours and guide experience.

3.7 Chat Messages and Photos

When you communicate with your AI guide, we may collect:

Your chat messages and recent conversation history.
The tour or stop connected to the conversation.
Photos or images you choose to take or upload.
Optional location context, if location access has been granted.
Responses generated by the Service.

Messages and uploaded images may be processed by artificial intelligence providers to generate answers, identify landmarks or objects, and provide tour-related information.

Do not upload images or information that you do not have permission to use or that unnecessarily identifies another person.

3.8 Search History and Product Interaction

We may collect searches and information about how you interact with the Service, including:

City, country, place and Explore searches.
Search terms submitted when adding a place.
Tours or places viewed, saved, shared or published.
Stops marked as visited or completed.
Route changes, reordered stops and weather adaptations.
Tour-generation, download and playback activity.
Other interactions required to save your progress and provide app functionality.

We do not use this information for targeted advertising or cross-app tracking.

3.9 Purchases

Pocket Tour Guide offers consumable tour credits through Apple's in-app purchase system and other supported app stores.

We and our purchase-management provider, RevenueCat, may collect:

Product identifiers.
Purchase history.
Transaction and receipt information.
Purchase status, date and store environment.
Credit grants, usage and remaining credit balance.
Refund, cancellation or transaction-validation information.
The Pocket Tour Guide user ID associated with a purchase.

Apple or the relevant app store processes your payment method. We do not receive or store your payment card number, bank account details or complete billing information.

Purchase information is used to validate transactions, prevent fraud, grant tour credits, provide customer support and produce revenue and purchase analytics.

3.10 Product Usage Analytics

To understand how the app is used and where it can be improved, we record a small, fixed set of in-app events — for example that a tour was requested, that generation succeeded or failed, that a stop was opened, that narration was played, or that a purchase screen was shown.

Each event records the event name, a short technical description (such as a step number, a city name, or an error code), the app version, the device platform, an app session identifier and the time it happened. Events are linked to your account so that a single traveller is not counted many times.

These events are processed on our own servers. They are not shared with any third-party analytics provider, are never used for advertising, and are never combined with data from other apps or websites. They contain no message content, no photos, no location coordinates and no free text you have written. Usage analytics are deleted after 180 days.

3.11 Website Data and Essential Cookies

When you use our website, essential cookies or similar technologies may be used to:

Maintain security.
Protect forms and sessions.
Remember essential website state.
Prevent fraudulent or abusive requests.

We do not use advertising cookies or third-party behavioural advertising trackers on the Pocket Tour Guide website.

4. How We Use Information

We use collected information to:

Create, authenticate and secure accounts.
Provide anonymous access where supported.
Generate and save personalized walking tours.
Build and adjust routes.
Generate stories, narration and AI-guide responses.
Process photos submitted for visual questions.
Provide weather-aware and accessibility-aware recommendations.
Save user preferences across devices.
Enable public tour sharing when requested.
Process and validate purchases.
Grant and manage tour credits.
Provide offline content.
Show your walking statistics, including steps and distance, where you have enabled step counting.
Respond to support requests.
Prevent fraud, abuse and security incidents.
Maintain and improve the reliability of the Service.
Produce purchase and revenue analytics.
Meet legal, accounting and regulatory obligations.

We do not sell personal data, display third-party advertising, or use personal data for cross-app tracking.

5. Legal Bases for Processing

Where the GDPR or similar laws apply, we process personal data under one or more of the following legal bases:

Performance of a Contract

Processing necessary to provide the Service you request, including accounts, tours, AI responses, purchases, saved content and cross-device access.

Consent

Processing based on your permission or voluntary choice, including device location, camera or photo access, step counting and activity information, accessibility preferences and publishing a tour publicly.

You may withdraw consent through the app or your device settings. Withdrawal does not affect processing that occurred before consent was withdrawn.

Legitimate Interests

Processing necessary to secure, maintain and improve the Service, prevent abuse, provide customer support and understand purchase performance, provided those interests are not overridden by your rights.

Legal Obligations

Processing required for accounting, tax, fraud prevention, legal requests, transaction records and compliance with applicable law.

6. Artificial Intelligence Processing

Pocket Tour Guide uses artificial intelligence services to generate itineraries, stories, narration and chat responses.

Depending on the feature and active service configuration, information sent to AI providers may include:

Tour preferences and destination details.
Guide and language preferences.
Chat messages and recent conversation context.
Images you choose to upload.
Optional location context.
Tour and stop information.

AI providers process this information on our behalf to provide the requested feature. AI-generated information may occasionally be incomplete or inaccurate. You should independently verify important travel, accessibility, safety, opening-hour and emergency information.

7. Service Providers and Third Parties

We share information only as necessary to operate the Service, comply with law or provide a feature you request.

Service providers may include:

Apple, for Sign in with Apple, App Store distribution and in-app purchases.
Google, for Sign in with Google, place information, mapping features and AI services where configured.
RevenueCat, for purchase validation, purchase history and credit fulfilment.
OpenAI and Google AI services, for tour generation, narration, visual questions and chat responses.
Geoapify, OpenStreetMap-based services, openrouteservice and other routing services, for maps, geocoding and walking routes.
MET Norway, for weather information.
Pexels, Wikimedia/Wikipedia and supported place-data providers, for place information and imagery.
Hosting, storage, security and infrastructure providers used to operate the Service.

These providers may process information according to their own terms and privacy policies:

We may also disclose information:

If required by law, court order or a valid governmental request.
To investigate fraud, security threats or violations of our terms.
To protect the rights, safety or property of users, the public or the Service.
As part of a merger, acquisition, financing or transfer of the Service, subject to appropriate confidentiality and notice requirements.

8. Public Tours and Sharing

Tours are private unless you choose to publish or share them.

When you publish a tour through Explore or create a public share link, other users may be able to see information such as:

Your displayed name.
The tour title, city and country.
The itinerary, stops, descriptions and generated stories.
Tour preferences intentionally included in the public tour.
Associated place photos and other public tour content.

Do not publish personal or sensitive information that you do not want others to see.

You may unpublish a tour or disable sharing where supported. Copies previously saved or shared by other people may remain outside our control.

9. Data Retention

We retain personal data only for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the Service and fulfil the purposes described in this Policy.

In general:

Account information, preferences, tours and chats are retained while your account remains active.
Anonymous account data may be retained while associated with the generated device account and until deleted or no longer required.
Purchase and credit records may be retained as necessary to validate transactions, provide support and meet accounting, tax, fraud-prevention and legal requirements.
Public tours remain available until they are unpublished, deleted or the related account is deleted.
Product usage analytics are deleted after 180 days.
Limited records may remain in backups for a reasonable period before being overwritten.
Third-party providers may retain information according to their own contractual and legal requirements.

When you delete your account, we revoke applicable authentication credentials, including the stored Sign in with Apple authorization where applicable, and erase or anonymize account data unless retention is legally required.

10. Account and Data Deletion

You may delete your Pocket Tour Guide account from within the app by opening:

Profile → Delete account & all data

Account deletion permanently removes the account and associated tours, chats, guide settings and remaining tour credits, subject to legal retention requirements. Deleted credits are not refundable.

You may also request access to or deletion of your information by emailing ptg@zuapp.me. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request.

11. Data Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures designed to protect information, including:

Encryption in transit.
Access controls and authentication.
Secure storage of authentication credentials.
Encryption of sensitive provider credentials where applicable.
Restricted access to production systems.
Transaction validation and fraud-prevention measures.
Account deletion and credential-revocation processes.

No internet or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure. You are responsible for protecting your account credentials and device access.

12. International Data Transfers

Some service providers may process information in countries outside your country of residence, including outside the European Economic Area.

Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as adequacy decisions, standard contractual clauses or other legally recognised transfer mechanisms.

13. Your Choices

You can control your information by:

Using the app without a conventional account where supported.
Choosing whether to sign in with Apple, Google or an email account.
Choosing whether to provide location access.
Selecting approximate location instead of precise location where supported by the operating system.
Disabling location or camera access in your device settings.
Choosing whether to upload a photo.
Turning step counting on or off in Settings.
Leaving accessibility fields empty.
Keeping tours private.
Unpublishing shared tours where supported.
Editing your guide and tour preferences.
Deleting individual content where supported.
Deleting your entire account.

Some features may not work without the information required to provide them.

14. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

Request access to your personal data.
Correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
Request deletion of your personal data.
Restrict or object to certain processing.
Receive a portable copy of information you provided.
Withdraw consent.
Object to processing based on legitimate interests.
Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Appeal a refusal to act on a privacy request, where applicable.

We will respond in accordance with applicable law and may request information necessary to verify your identity.

15. Children's Privacy

Pocket Tour Guide is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.

Age requirements may differ by country. If you believe a child has provided personal information without appropriate authorisation, contact us at ptg@zuapp.me so we can investigate and delete the information where required.

16. Third-Party Links and Applications

Pocket Tour Guide may open or provide links to third-party services such as Apple Maps, Google Maps, Waze, Uber, Bolt, websites, booking services or place-information pages.

Your use of those services is governed by their own privacy policies and terms. We are not responsible for how an external service collects or uses information after you leave Pocket Tour Guide.

17. No Advertising or Cross-App Tracking

Pocket Tour Guide:

Does not display third-party advertising.
Does not use Apple's advertising identifier for targeted advertising.
Does not combine app data with data from unrelated apps or websites for advertising.
Does not share personal data with data brokers.
Does not sell personal data.

Purchase analytics are used only to operate and understand the performance of Pocket Tour Guide purchases.

18. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when the Service, legal requirements or our data practices change.

When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date and provide additional notice where required.

Your continued use of the Service after an updated Policy becomes effective is subject to the updated Policy, except where additional consent is required by law.
